Thoughts

I met Kenny through our mutual friend, David Deckelbaum, {both now of blessed memory} back in the early 80's at Yoav's Bar Mitzvah. He impressed me deeply, and not only from his comedy routine~~~old man sitting on a park bench [ nor from his sparkling white shirt!]~~~~there was more, so much more as i slowly learnt over the following years, as whenever in London, i visited with Kenny. Early mornings at the Hampstead Pools, breakfast at a nearby cafe, hanging out in the Acquisition showroom and his spacious office upstairs~~all of which he was so happily and rightly proud. Proud and happy and a friend to all, that was my friend. Once walking in Kentish Town we passed a fellow playing a didgeridoo~~Ken was fascinated. His first time seeing/hearing and he was enthralled/ nothing escaped him~~~ his curiosity and love of life was so overwhelmingly. He lovingly affected us all. A delight and an honour to have known and loved and been so loved in return/ We all miss him and honour his life and memory/ alan

It is difficult to express how much I loved Kenny and the gratitude I feel for the friendship between our two families. In the summer of 1982 he came to our house in the Laurentians for the first time with Barbro, Jonathan and Zoe. I will never forget those perfect sunny days, with Kenny so excited about everything - the sun, the beach, the food - the steak and French fries and Montreal bagels and Montreal smoked meat, and everything else. Every night he'd say that he was gaining too much weight and would start dieting the next day, but that of course didn't happen! I remember Kenny sitting outside with my dad's dad and a tape recorder so he could tape some of my grandfather's stories. Kenny was always so interested in other people and he made everyone he talked to feel special. I will always remember all the parties and the singing and the laughter. Kenny was one of the funniest people I've ever known. At one of our parties, a neighbor's child took a plate of French fries and hid it somewhere so he could have it later, and Kenny kept us laughing about that for the rest of the trip. Those summers were such a special, golden time for everyone lucky enough to be there. It was amazing just to be around Kenny. He was such a source of joy and life and laughter and love. He used to tell me all the time how much he loved his wife and children and how lucky he felt he was. And he would point to Barbro and ask me "Isn't she gorgeous?" Of course my answer was always a resounding yes! I was so happy that Kenny and Barbro came to my wedding in July 1994, and to my sister Naomi’s wedding in 2006. Kenny was the hit of both weddings. I can still picture him at the party we threw at our country house the night before my wedding, doing his "selling towels" act while giving out the wedding t-shirts we made for everyone. He had everyone in the room in stitches. And he was hilarious in Jamaica at Naomi's wedding. I've never seen my husband or mother laugh so hard as when Kenny kept imitating a friend of my parents who was an overly close talker. And of course Kenny was awesome at the talent show. My dad was laughing so hard that the tears were streaming down his face. I'm so glad that my parents were able to go on so many wonderful holidays with Kenny and Barbro - Florida and London and Portugal and taking Kenny on his first cruise. I loved hearing about how excited Kenny was on the cruise with everything (including the food of course)! Kenny brought so much happiness and joy to my parents and for that I will be everlastingly grateful. I also remember all his kindness when I went to spend Christmas in London when I was 21. Kenny was such a wonderful host and took me to see a musical and showed me around London. I brought a gym bag for him filled with smoked meat and a roast goose and I still remember Kenny the first night I arrived, eating from the gym bag and making hilarious faces and repeating "Oh my god it's so good." Kenny was truly one of the most special people I have ever known. Kind, caring, humble, smart, hilarious, loving, positive and joyful. He was truly an inspiration. I really loved him and will miss him immensely. I will always be grateful for the cherished memories I carry and for all the joy he brought into our lives. With all my love, Karen
